ICTU and Logius
|
ICTU develops and Logius maintains ICTU was founded by the Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations and the VNG (Dutch Association of Local Councils) on 11th April 2001. Commissioned by government organizations, ICTU develops new programmes. ICTU is a typical project led organization; and in fact most programmes are finite. Because a number of programmes are more structural in character the "Gemeenschappelijke beheerorganisatie" (GBO.Overheid until January 11 2009) was set up. Logius maintains ICT tools of a generic and structural nature. Programmes developed at ICTU are only sent to Logius once a first version (1.0) is ready. Thus ICTU developed the tools DigiD (Digital Identity), PKIoverheid (Public Key Infrastructure) and "Overheidstransactiepoort" (Government Transaction Portal), which have been maintained by GBO.Overheid since the beginning of 2006. ICTU develops and Logius maintains ICTU is also referred to as the official purveyor of Logius. Many programmes currently being developed by ICTU which have a longer life span stand a greater chance of being transferred to Logius at a later stage. The regulation of IT tool maintenance by one single government organization has many advantages. Authorities and public service providers are able to use tools without having to develop them themselves. Standardization simplifies information exchange and the multiple use of information. Logius contributes to the cohesion within the public domain and guarantees consistent quality in the government's electronic service provision.
